We Happy Few‘s season pass is only available via the game’s deluxe edition, but each DLC will be available for purchase separately after launch. Ordinarily, especially in cases such as We Happy Few‘s protracted release schedule and design changes, older versions are scrapped and forgotten. The Sandbox Mode is a refreshing change, as the developer has decided to preserve an older version of the game. The Season Pass as a whole focuses on secondary and tertiary characters, aside from possibly the final DLC. The post-launch content appears to re-contextualise the game’s scope, due to the expansion of We Happy Few‘s three central character roster. But that doesn’t mean you should go digging up dirt from the past. ‘We All Fall Down’, lastly, is the most cryptic addition of the bunch, described merely as, “Much like any well-worn happy mask, all societies develop cracks in their veneer. ‘Lightbearer’ follows the life of musical heartthrob Nick Lightbearer through the lens of Uncle Jack’s late night television show. The rest of the downloadable content is similarly story-based, similarly dealing with contrasting themes and characters. The first is named ‘Roger & James in: They Came From Below!’, a story-based add-on where Roger and James embark “in search of adventure or love.” The rest of the game’s content will come in the form of a season pass, which contains three pieces of content. This mode revives We Happy Few‘s original premise as a systematic, sandbox world. This mode will allow players to customise levels as they wish, including the size of the map, resource scarcity, et cetera. Most notably, the game will receive a Sandbox Mode as a free update. Compulsion Games has detailed We Happy Few‘s post-launch content plans ahead of the title’s official release next week.
